Leavin'.....After A Ton Of Work

I've been missing out here on my blog for a very good reason. We got news on Tuesday that my husband was being promoted and getting a raise. That's great, right? Well, along with that came the news that he had to pack his bag THAT DAY and leave within a few hours for the week. Why, you ask? They needed him there straight away, and we need to move to another province right away too.

Yep, it was quite the whirlwind week. He came home on Saturday, late afternoon, and it's been go, go, go since. We've spent the weekend that he's been home cleaning, painting, fixing and doing odd little jobs that needed doing. I'm sweaty, exhausted and covered in dirt and bugs and who knows what else. We have bags upon bags of garbage for the dump, and more than that to give away. We still have more to do, as well.

We'd like to be there before school starts in September, but it'll depend on the way the cards fall from today to then. If I'm not on as regularly updating you with my crazy life, you'll know why.

Cut a girl a break. This girl has a million "to do" lists and a very short time to get 'er done!

Canada Day Catch Up

It's been a whole week, there a bouts, since I last blogged. My life gets busy, 'k! Back off! Actually, I've just been doing a whole lot of enjoying the past while, so let me bring you up to speed.

We had a really nice Canada Day with our neighbours. We just kept it on the down low, choosing to play outside and then having a nice joint family dinner. I had made chicken wings and ribs, a couscous salad and some corn on the cob. Good 'ol down home cooking. We chatted and talked and when they packed up their wee ones for bed, we packed our kids in the car. We headed down by the waterfront where they do the fireworks, with my kids totally excited and anticipating a great show. Umm, this ain't the nation's capital folks. The fireworks lasted all of "maybe" 10 minutes by my count and weren't the dazzling display we typically see on the big day. It didn't really matter though, my kids were still happy and enjoyed what they did see. As we got back home and tucked everyone into bed, I started reminiscing about Canada days past. The times sure have changed from my previous Canada Day celebrations. It made part of me feel a little lame, like I should be doing something "more," but on the other hand it made me just feel contented with the status quo. I'm a proud Canadian wherever I am, and that's what I'm trying to pass on to my girls.

The next day brought me back to daycare life and seems a bit blurry, now. I think we were all just a little tired and out of sorts that day. What's with no day off the day after a big holiday? Poop.

This weekend, we took the girls strawberry picking in the blazing heat. It was so hot out there in the field, I literally felt faint a few times. Of course, it didn't help that I had been outside for 4 hours the preceding day lying in the sun reading a book. The backs of my legs are fire engine red. Needless to say, squatting up and down getting berries didn't feel quite right. We had fun though, and came home with two big baskets full. I'm freezing 3/4 of them for winter smoothie making, and we're devouring the rest. We also bought a strawberry pie and a blueberry pie. They are in the freezer just calling my name.

Once home and with our internal water tanks refueled, we hit the slip and slide in the backyard. I don't know what it is about that thing, but I love it. I could have used less pain on the legs again, but really it's my own stupidity that allowed it to happen, so slip and slide away I did. My husband made a delicious steak dinner while I moaned and bitched on the couch, covering my legs in as much lotion as we own. Ugh.

Here we are back at Monday. The good news is, I have the next three days off. The bad news is, I have no idea what the girls and I will be doing. I guess I better get to planning something fun and cool since they are predicting record high heat. Great. My 'fro will be back in full force! Ah well, it's summertime and the livin' is easy!
